Who Do You Say That I Am?

The most important question any of us will ever answer is the question Jesus asked His disciples in Matthew 16:15, “Who do you say that I am?” Some said Jesus was a fanatic, others said a preacher, and some said a prophet. But they all had it wrong. Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16). Peter had a personal relationship with Jesus and knew Jesus was different. Peter understood that Jesus was His long-awaited Savior. One day, we will all have to answer Jesus’ question; and to do so, we must decide for ourselves if we believe Jesus really is who He claims He is.
Jesus came to Earth with a purpose – to do the will of His Father by defeating sin and death once and for all. In Matthew 16:21, Jesus predicted His death and resurrection. Not only did Jesus predict He would die and rise again, He actually accomplished it; and in doing so, He did so much for us. God’s love for us has been revealed through His Son, Jesus. Because of what He did, we have forgiveness of sins and access to our Heavenly Father.
For through him we both have access in one spirit to the Father
(Ephesians 2:18).
C.S. Lewis wrote this in
Mere Christianity:
I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.’ . . . You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.
While on my journey toward faith in Jesus, I reached a point where I had read the stories and decided it was time to process exactly what I should do with what I had read. It was time to consider Jesus. It took some time and an open heart and mind, but I came to see that Jesus is God. Jesus is who He said He is, and He did what He said He would do. Jesus is my risen Savior, and I now call Him Lord and worship Him as God.
So, consider Jesus today. Who do you say He is?
