I woke up this morning and the first thought that came to my mind was, “God is with me.” It was so striking, and I just kept hearing it repeat over and over again in my sleepy early morning brain.
Perhaps that was because I had been reading this in the book of Genesis: They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden (Genesis 3:8).
On a recent visit with my parents, I heard my dad get up early in the morning and walk down the hallway into the kitchen to start the coffee maker. He has a very distinctive lumbering walk. I would know his walk anywhere. It makes my heart happy just thinking about it.
This led me to ponder the concept of Adam and Eve recognizing the sound of the Lord God walking to visit with them. How amazing is that! After they sinned against God, the Lord never again walked with man in this same way. He is a whisper on the wind, a burning bush, a thundering voice, and a presence in the traveling tabernacle. But never again this familiar casual happening. The fact that God could actually walk with them shows us just how perfect Adam and Eve were before the fall.
The miracle is this: God has sacrificed more than we can comprehend to be with us. I take it for granted on some days, but most days this miracle is what keeps me going.
Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” (2 Corinthians 6:16)
I was telling a young woman the other day that God is the most significant being in my life. He changes every day of my life for the better. This is what the world around us doesn’t understand and desperately needs to know. God will walk through the everyday stuff, but He also walks with us through the hardest and scariest parts of life. People are seeking a bazillion things in life when what they truly need is to seek the Lord God. Let’s choose to walk with God – and share what gives you everlasting life. Share with others your walk with God.
