“Woe to you who long for the day of the Lord! Why do you long for the day of the Lord? That day will be darkness, not light. It will be as though a man fled from a lion only to meet a bear, as though he entered his house and rested his hand on the wall only to have a snake bite him. Will not the day of the Lord be darkness, not light— pitch-dark, without a ray of brightness?” (Amos 5:18-20)
The Day of the Lord will be dark and terrible – terrifying! And there will be no denying the power of the Lord. Many will die.
It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.
(Hebrews 9:27)
Revelation describes this judgment:
Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:11-15)
This is the same lake of fire that was earlier described as a place where
“they will be tormented day and night forever and ever” (Revelation 20:10).
This is what awaits those without Christ the day after the Terrible Day of the Lord or upon their death.
Pause now and allow yourself to feel God’s pain. Ask Him to show you what Hell is like. Open your heart to what He wants to tell you.
Then, remember that God is “not willing that any should perish” (2 Peter 3:9) or as the Message states:
Don’t overlook the obvious here, friends . . .God isn’t late with his promise as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change.
Brothers and sisters, these words are hard to hear. But we must hear what God says.
For the day is near, the day of the Lord is near. (Ezekiel 30:3)
