“Have they RSVP’d yet, Mom? Is anyone coming?’
“What if she says no in front of everyone? What will people think?’
It is a worrisome thing to invite people to a party or for a boy to ask a girl to dance. Thought goes into the planning and the invitation list. Courage is required to ask someone to dance.
We invite people that we want to spend time with; we don’t invite someone to a birthday party unless we hope they can come.
We know this truth. We know that if we are invited, the people want us to join them in the event. Yet, we often don’t apply it to God’s invitation to be involved with Him in His work.
Perhaps, like Moses, we question if God has it right. Me? You want me? I can’t possibly serve this way.
Perhaps we assume that since the invitation to be involved with God’s work has been given to all believers, we don’t need to answer it with a yes.
Maybe we see the invitation as an event that a person can simply come to when it fits into his/her schedule.
Almost always we see the invitation from the point of view of the invited and not the inviter. We need to see it through God’s eyes.
God has invited us to follow Him:
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
God has invited us to obey Him:
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” (John 14:15)
God has invited us to tell others about Him:
”Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
God is waiting for your RSVP. Tell him yes today.
