“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” (Deuteronomy 6:4-5)
During the summer months, I work with FUGE Camps! This summer was my second summer working; and just in case you didn’t know, camp is a personality trait for me. Every day I get to run around, act crazy, serve all around the country, and share the love of Jesus with students and adults of all ages. Do you know how refreshing it is to encounter students who don't know Jesus, have the opportunity to talk about Him and His story with them, and then watch them fall in love with Him?
At the end of the week, we bring out a big bell; and anyone who has made the decision to follow Jesus gets to ring the bell. It’s the biggest party and celebration – you might say it’s a small glimpse of heaven. Everyone waits for the bell to ring; and then it’s screaming, jumping, tears, hugging and so many more celebratory actions. These students demonstrate the joy of loving the Lord with all their heart and all their soul and all their might.
New followers of Christ have such a glow, but what happens to that glow? Christians often fall into the trap of just loving Jesus. Note the word JUST. We tell people, “I love Jesus and all that He has done for me” -- but are we loving Him with our whole heart, our whole soul, and all our might?
One of my sweet friends is a new mom and she often says, “I love my son so much, my heart just aches.” We should go about everyday being ABSOLUTELY in LOVE with Jesus. Every day, we should go about living our life for Jesus. Every day, we should be doing everything in honor of Jesus. We should go about our day screaming and jumping because we love our LORD soooo much.
While we hear this verse and say we are living it out, how much are we really living it out?
I pray that you go out into today being on FIRE for the LORD. Wake up every morning and pretend you are ringing that bell as if it’s your first time. Love the LORD with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might!
