The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all. (Psalm 103:19)
As I pondered this Scripture, especially the part about His kingdom ruling “over all,” I checked out other translations to see if that would help expand my understanding. I found only confirmation of the first version – “over all” (numerous times), “over everything” (numerous times), “over all Creation,” “over the universe.” Well, I hope you get the point. His kingdom rules! In fact, to use a double negative, there is no place, no area of this life, where His kingdom does not rule.
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth has written a new book titled:
Heaven Rules. The subtitle offers this wisdom:
Take courage. Take comfort. Our God is in control. In a time when the world seems to be falling apart and perhaps headed toward the end of time, the words “Heaven rules” should be a comfort to believers.
Maybe you can relate to a commercial I heard recently that began with this question:
Do you have the feeling that the world is being held together by duct tape?
And have you noticed that almost all news has become “Breaking News” – and almost always BAD news? If you absorb enough of it and keep breathing in all the reports of terrible things happening all over the world, all over the country, all over your state, all over your community, it becomes a bad news overload that often leads to a fearful response and a faith failure.
Soon after 9/11/2001, Anne Graham Lotz commented that when we think the world is falling apart (as many did on that day), in God’s economy things are just falling into place. Can you trust that “Heaven rules” even when (and ESPECIALLY when) the evil in the world far outweighs the good – and evil
appears to be winning?
Would you try something with me? As you listen to the news tonight or tomorrow, each time you hear really bad news, would you whisper softly, “Heaven rules!” Continue to whisper those words with each bit of bad news, and ask God to strengthen your faith in His sovereignty.
Take courage. Take comfort. Our God is in control.
Frantic about the news? Or focused on our Sovereign God who rules over all? Your choice.
