I was sitting at Malibu Jack’s as my children ran through the play area, and I enjoyed observing all the children as they ran past me. Some were more timid and stayed close to “home base,” so they could still see their parents; while others ran wildly, their arms waving over their heads – without a care in the world.
There are rules for the play area, and some of the kids followed them to a T; while others had no idea the rules applied to them. There were those that were small and not as sure on their feet, while others were running full speed. Some had tears because they got bumped or couldn’t climb as high as they wanted or as high as their friends were climbing. However, it was pure joy for most of them.
I sat there taking it all in, and the thought overwhelmed me as I tried to put myself in our Father’s shoes for a moment. Imagining Him looking at us as we are unsure at times to leave “home base” or we are so worried about not being at the same level as others around us. Some of us fall, and it takes all we have to get back up -- and there are lots and lots of tears; while there are other times in our lives where we can throw our hands up in the air and feel free.
There are those of us that choose to follow the rules, while others don’t feel the rules apply to them. Our Father has given us free will; and although there are rules to live by, it is our choice. To know Him is to know that He wants all of it for us. Not that He wants us to fall and suffer, but He does allow those times in our lives in order to humble us, teach us, and/or use us for His will. He most definitely rejoices and takes delight in us when He knows our heart’s desire is aligned with His -- and that we are joyfully obeying and listening to His leading.
Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4)
The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17)
