They arranged to meet Paul on a certain day, and came in even larger numbers to the
place where he was staying. He witnessed to them from morning till evening, explaining
about the kingdom of God, and from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets he tried to
persuade them about Jesus (Acts 28:23).
In Acts 28:23, we see the Apostle Paul engaged in an earnest effort to explain the gospel to the
Jewish leaders in Rome. How did he go about it? He didn’t rely on his own eloquence or
personal experiences alone—though he had both in abundance. Instead, Paul sought to
persuade them "about Jesus from the Law of Moses and the Prophets." His foundation was the
Word of God.
This teaches us an essential truth: when we share our faith, it’s not our opinions or stories that
ultimately change hearts; it’s God’s Word. Scripture is alive and powerful (Hebrews 4:12), and it
holds the authority to convict, encourage, and guide people toward truth. Paul understood that,
and it shaped how he presented the gospel.
This is a vital lesson for us today. While personal testimonies of how Jesus has transformed our
lives can be powerful, they should point back to the unshakable truth of Scripture. God's Word
does not return void (Isaiah 55:11). It is our sure foundation in a world full of shifting opinions,
ideologies, and uncertainties. When we share our faith, we stand on firm ground when we
anchor our message in God’s Word.
Yet, sharing Scripture can feel intimidating at times. What if we’re not Bible scholars? What if we
don’t have all the answers? Take heart! Paul himself faced rejection by some of the Jewish
leaders, even though he was a well-trained Pharisee and an apostle of Christ. The success of
our witness doesn’t depend on our having the perfect words or arguments but on the power of
God’s truth to work in people’s hearts.
Our role is to plant seeds by speaking the Word, whether in conversation, in prayer, or by
showing others where to find answers in the Bible. The Holy Spirit is the One who brings the
growth (1 Corinthians 3:6-7). We simply need to be faithful in sharing.
Be encouraged! God’s Word is sufficient. You don’t need to embellish it or add to it. When you
rely on Scripture, you’re not relying on your own strength but on the living, breathing Word of
God. As Paul did, may we also rest in the power and authority of God’s Word as we share the
good news of Jesus Christ with others. It is His Word that changes hearts, not ours.
