If there’s anything the pandemic taught me is that I don’t agree with a lot of people. I don’t know how
many comments I started to make but by the grace of God I erased.
There are so many opinions out there. There are so many things people have said that I want to shout,
“You’re wrong! How can you think that? Seriously, have you read the Bible?”
In the end, however, it is so much better to keep my mouth shut. No good can come from a bunch of
Christians using the Bible to make their point on Facebook or Instagram.
Social media was not created to be a platform for Christians to convince one another of their opinion.
Neither was church, necessarily, but that is the place where the body of Christ can lovingly come
together and discuss God’s word to discover the Truth on a matter.
Paul’s words to the Ephesians could have been written to the American church today:
Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk worthy of the calling you have received, with all
humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep
the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. (Ephesians 4:1-3 CSB)
We are called to put up with each other with patience. We are called to humility and gentleness. We are
called to make the effort toward unity in the bond of peace.
Today, reflect on your level of patience with those who don’t agree with you.
Are you willing to put up with people? If you aren’t willing to put up with your fellow Christian, how will
you love those who aren’t Christians?
Is there someone you need to make amends with? In Matthew’s gospel, Jesus tells His listeners, “So if
you are offering your gift on the altar, and there you remember that your brother or sister has
something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled with your
brother or sister, and then come and offer your gift.” (Matthew 5:23-24 CSB)
Make things right. For, as Jesus said, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you
love one another.” (John 13:35 CSB)
