Humble, Gentle

Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk worthy of the calling you have received, with all
humility and gentleness. (Ephesians 4:1-2a CSB)
It’s hard to be humble.
It’s hard to be gentle.
The first sin was the desire to be like God. We have always struggled with control and wanting things our
way. This struggle creates pride and defeats gentleness. Humility and gentleness are not in our nature.
But they are in the nature of our Creator.
Think the same way that Christ Jesus thought:
Christ was truly God.
But he did not try to remain equal with God. Instead he gave up everything and became a slave, when
he became like one of us.
Christ was humble.
He obeyed God and even died on a cross. (Philippians 2:5-8 CEV)
We are called to share this humble attitude with the One we follow. Don't be jealous or proud, but be
humble and consider others more important than yourselves. (Philippians 2:3 CEV)
Further, we are called to walk with gentleness.
- Always be gentle with others. The Lord will soon be here. (Philippians 4:5 CEV)
- Who among you is wise and understanding? By his good conduct he should show that his works are done in the gentleness that comes from wisdom. (James 3:13 CSB)
- A ruler can be persuaded through patience, and a gentle tongue can break a bone. (Proverbs 25:15 CSB)
Today, walk worthy of the calling you have received with humility and gentleness.
It may be hard. But in the long run, it’s much easier.
