When my daughter and I were talking about this week’s theme, she had such sweet thoughts – so I’m passing on the baton and letting her share about the second Reality of Experiencing God and the importance of love.
Do you know when people say they were raised at a church? Well, that's me! I feel like I was immediately in the nursery the Sunday after I was born. I was in the kid's choir, there on Sunday and Wednesday Nights, Mom's Day Out, you name it, I was probably there.
As you know, my parents are moving – out of the home I grew up in – out of the only city I’ve known – away from the church where they raised me. People have asked how I feel about it, and the answer is: I’m SO excited for them, and, of course, I’m going to be okay!
First, this is my dad's dream job. My parents encouraged me to pursue my dreams, and it would be hypocritical if they did not do that themselves. I am so excited to see them plant new roots, pour into people they do not yet know, and share their talents in a new church home.
Second, I am going to be okay, because I’m surrounded and loved by my God and my church family. When I get a little anxious about the change, my mom has me start naming people around me. Shockingly enough, I can name at least 40 people who, if I needed something, would get to me in two minutes. These people are my church family.
Let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. (1 John 4:7)
These people genuinely love me and my family. Some are like a grandma to me; some I consider more like family than friends. These people aren't just saying “We're here if you need anything.” They love like Jesus loves, and their love is from God. I love my church family, and I know we are supported by hundreds of people. I encourage you to think, pray, and pour into your church family. They are going to be there for you through everything.
I also want to say a quick thank you to everyone who has reached out to our family. It's going to be a change, but I know the real and personal relationships He pursues aren’t moving… and I am so thankful.
