Implementing God’s Plan into Our Business Plan

Our church has a strong commitment to reach out to our community. When you exit the parking lot, you see the sign that says “You are now entering the mission field” -- a reminder that our mission is to bring people to Christ.
As an employer of people, I face challenges daily and wear many hats. I am the decision maker, the leader, the sounding board, the fixer, the maintenance man. You get the point. However, none of those roles are as important (or challenging at times) as being an example of Christ to my staff.
… we haven’t stopped praying for you. We are asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him: bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God…
(Colossians 1:9-10)
This is not in my actual business plan, but rather a side plan that I have always prayed to personally maintain. Godly people should be godly leaders, so part of my plan in business is to be a godly leader.
BE HUMBLE: Godly leaders reflect God’s calling to be humble. Leading with humility gives your coworkers a sense of comfort around you.
LOVE GENEROUSLY: Love on your people regardless of their position. Show them you care and that they are important to you.
APOLOGIZE QUICKLY: As leaders, we are imperfect -- we make mistakes. Be the first to own it and take accountability. Setting this example provides proof that we are vulnerable too.
LOVE AND LOSE GRACIOUSLY: Most of us have a competitive nature personally and in business. It hurts when someone beats us out of a contract or “deal”. Model graciousness to your coworkers by congratulating your competition and being their friend.
FORGIVE QUICKLY: Someone once told me: “Greatly forgiven people, forgive greatly”. If a coworker makes a mistake, forgive and move on. When we are hesitant to forgive, we are not modeling Christ.
LEAD FEARLESSLY: Lead knowing that God has a plan. We owe it all to him… He owes us nothing. Pray every day for His guidance and discernment. As we invest in HIM, He multiplies His investment in us.
Every day before work I pray that I may maintain and live out these traits, knowing that it will bring me one step closer to sharing the gospel or being asked about Jesus by my employees. Wait for the Holy Spirit, then act on it. I ask when you leave the church in the future, look at the sign and pray how you can implement a plan for your mission field.
