If you are a parent, you likely have goals as it relates to your kids. I am not talking about living their life for them by choosing their career and hobbies. I am talking about goals you set for yourself, such as saving for college or working toward a dream vacation. One goal I have for my kids to make sure they know the gospel before they leave my house. I can’t make them believe the gospel, but I can ensure they know it.
But what is the gospel? We have mentioned it in each devotion this week, but we haven’t really defined it. Although a 400-word devotional can only scratch the surface, we can get a good start by studying what happens next to Saul.
For some days he was with the disciples at Damascus. And immediately he proclaimed Jesus in the synagogues, saying, “He is the Son of God.” (Acts 9:19b-20)
Saul went from persecuting Jesus to proclaiming Him. And his message is summed up by this simple but amazing truth, “Jesus is the Son of God.” It is this truth that serves as the foundation of the gospel because the gospel is all about Jesus.
The gospel is about Jesus dying on the cross for our sins and rising from the dead for our life.
The gospel is about the Spirit of Jesus giving sight to the spiritually blind.
The gospel is about Jesus calling us to repentance from sin and to abundant life in Him.
The gospel is about being reconciled with God through Jesus.
The gospel is about the Spirit transforming our hearts and minds so we are conformed to the image of Jesus.
The gospel is about God saving people from every nation, tribe, and tongue so all peoples praise Him.
The gospel is about Jesus’ return to establish perfect justice and peace as He rules in the new heaven and new earth.
The gospel is Jesus...
It is simple enough for a child to understand but deep enough that we never outgrow it.
As we close this week, let me ask how the gospel impacts your life. Is it merely a truth statement you affirm and sing about on Sunday morning? Or is the gospel the truth that transforms every aspect of your life as you follow Jesus by faith? Spend time reflecting on this, and let this truth be the center of your life: “Jesus is the Son of God.”
