As I was breezing through the den, where the TV was on, I heard these words come from the screen –
words attributed to a young man who seemingly preferred a simple life: “All I want is a girl and a good
truck.” As those words filtered through my heart, I became convicted that as believers sometimes we
don’t want enough – we don’t want and treasure the spiritual blessings that are ours in Christ Jesus.
Sometimes, like the young man on the TV who had a few simple desires, all we want is to know we’re
saved and going to heaven. And we fail to experience and breathe in the treasures that are ours because
of Jesus.
Here are two more spiritual blessings we believers need to cherish and embrace more fully:
11 – Hope in Christ– I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the
confident hope he has given to those he called... (Ephesians 1:18). The spiritual blessing of hope in
Christ is not a wishful thinking kind of hope. As Paul explains so beautifully, it is a confident hope that is
only understood by those whose hearts are flooded with the light of His truth.
Paul went on to offer this prayer for the Roman believers: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and
peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit
(Romans 15:13). Our hope should not be a casual hope, but an overflowing hope!
12 – Power in Christ – Paul speaks of the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe
(Ephesians 1:19-20).
Paul gave this reminder about the spiritual blessing of power when he wrote to his young friend,
Timothy: For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2
Timothy 1:7). The power of the Holy Spirit – the very power that gives us hope, the power that gives us
strength, the power that gives us courage.
Although I have loved counting spiritual blessings with you this week, I can only imagine the spiritual
blessings yet to come in our heavenly home – blessings too precious for words. But now while we’re
earthbound, we must ask ourselves some questions:
And now… let’s “praise God from whom all blessings flow!”
