“Playing Jesus. That has to be a huge responsibility,” Alice Cooper recently commented to Jonathan
Roumie. Jonathan plays the role of Jesus in the series The Chosen.
The docuseries “Jonathan and Jesus” centers around the impact that being so closely identified with
Jesus has had on Jonathan’s life.
Jonathan responded, “I meet people that tell me when they pray to Jesus, they see my eyes.”
One can only imagine the enormity of the responsibility he has being so closely associated with Jesus.
Jonathan would need to be careful with everyone he talks with and everywhere he goes. He would need
to stay close to Jesus so he can reflect Him in all he does. Playing Jesus would necessitate a life
committed to Jesus.
This responsibility is not something all of us would want. However, it is a responsibility every Christian
bears.
Paul tells us, Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk worthy of the calling you have
received. (Ephesians 4:1 CSB)
He urges us to “walk worthy”. What does this mean? Perhaps we know what it means to walk worthy,
but do we always want to do it?
Walking worthy means that all of Christ’s followers have the same responsibility to reflect Jesus that
Jonathan has. We are made in His image, and we are to bear His image.
When we walk worthy, perhaps our eyes will remind people of Jesus. Perhaps the words we speak will
point people toward God. And perhaps our heart will share God’s love.
Walk worthy of Christ today. Live your life in such a way that when others encounter you, they think of
Jesus.
