“Prayer changes things!”
This truth has become a popular saying. We have seen God work in mighty ways through prayer. Who
can forget what happened when the entire country prayed for the NFL player who briefly died on the
football field last year?
And while God does work in mighty ways, the biggest change we see due to prayer is in us. We may
begin a prayer angry at someone, and, in the process of praying begin to confess where we went wrong.
Our situation may seem hopeless when we first speak to God; but, after He has spoken to us, we are
filled with hope.
Prayer changes us. We begin to see things the way that God sees them. We see the world through His
eyes.
So, it is not at all surprising that after putting on the armor of God in order to stand firm against the
schemes of the devil, there is one thing left to do: pray.
“Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all
perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.” (Ephesians 6:18 ESV)
The Christian is to stand firm in God’s armor, with the sword of the Spirit in hand and praying at all times
in order to be alert and see things as God sees them.
Take the time to reflect. Are you standing firm against the schemes of the devil? Are you standing in
your own strength or God’s? Are you putting on all of the armor of God or just part of it? Are you
allowing God’s Word to work in your life? Are you praying? Do you see things as God sees them or as
you want them to be?
Father, thank You for providing me with all the armor I need to deal with the enemy. Help me to
remember that I am not going out in my own strength or my own wisdom – it is all Your strength and
Your wisdom. Help me to stay in Your Word and spend time with You In prayer so I will see things as You
see them. Amen
