Having to lead a church is no small task. But it’s even more difficult leading a church during these challenging times in our country where so much is upside down and backwards and where truth is hard to discern.
So, let’s spend some time praying for the leadership of Immanuel.
Hebrews 13:17-18 says, Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things.
So first, pray for the pastoral leadership to properly care for the souls they keep watch over. This includes praying for God to give them wisdom as they prepare sermons, worship services, Bible studies, gatherings, discipleship, and so much more. Furthermore, ask God to give them the strength and energy to persevere joyfully in all aspects of their ministry.
In addition, pray for God’s favor to be upon them as they seek His direction for Immanuel. Ask God to keep them healthy in all aspects of life -- physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally.
As verse 18 says, pray they will act honorably in all things. Temptation will certainly come their way, so ask for the Spirit to protect them as they seek to live and serve with a clear conscience.
Our church staff has been strong through the many challenges of this decade, and we want to keep them in our prayers as they face the continued challenges of a growing church amid changing times.
And now for your homework: Identify at least one person on staff at Immanuel and pray these things specifically for them. Then, send them a note of encouragement (anonymously, if you so choose) to let them know they are in your prayers and that you’re hoping they are sensing God’s presence and His power. And then consider incorporating the ministry of encouragement into your regular routine.
