Have you ever watched the replay of a ballgame where you knew the outcome? You know your team
wins the game but is down at halftime? It can be frustrating and disheartening to watch the first half,
right? But you aren’t worried at halftime. You can plan for the inevitable victory celebration!
On Good Friday we remember Jesus’s willingness to lay down His life to save all of us. We remember
that Jesus willingly took on the wrath of God that should have fallen on us. On Easter Sunday we will
celebrate our risen Savior. But today? It’s our halftime.
I asked the members of my Community Group what they usually do on the Saturday before Easter, and
most of them are preparing for celebrations tomorrow. They are taking children to Easter egg hunts;
they are planning family Easter dinners; they are deciding what to wear to church. And… we are all
looking forward to celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Immediately after the crucifixion, the disciples were scattered and confused. They didn’t understand
that Jesus would have to die and that He would return after three days. They didn’t know the outcome
even though He told them numerous times.
“He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of
Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” (Luke
24:6-7 ESV)
… for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead. (John 20:9 ESV)
We know that Jesus is not dead; He is risen. Praise God, we can look forward to the victory celebration!
Jesus is victorious over sin and death, and all who follow Him can claim that victory. Join us tomorrow in
a victory worth celebrating!
