Common Questions About Baptism

Here is some of what we believe about baptism

What is Baptism?

Baptism isn’t required for salvation, but it is the first step of faith for believers. The baptismal water doesn’t save anyone. It’s Jesus who does that. Baptism is a picture of the work that Jesus has done in a person’s heart. Baptism illustrates Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection as seen in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. It shows our new life as a follower of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). The Biblical word for baptism is baptizo, which means to immerse. We believe that Baptism is to be fully immersed in water.

Why should I be Baptized?

We believe there are lots of good reasons!

Here are just a few:

  • Jesus was baptized! (Matthew 3:13-17)
  • Jesus told us that we should be baptized as part of his Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20).
  • It's your opportunity to tell the world that you are not ashamed to follow Him!

How do I get Baptized?

At Immanuel, we recommend those seeking to be baptized attend a baptism orientation. This class explains what baptism is and isn’t, and why baptism is important. Once a person has attended the orientation, they can work with our staff to schedule their baptism.

If you are unable to attend one of our baptism orientations, you can schedule a time to meet with one of our Pastors.

  • *Baptism Orientation is designed for ages 13 and up. We ask that a parent/guardian of all 13-17 year olds accompany their student to Orientation or meeting with an IBC Pastor. We do ask that elementary children, along with their parent(s), meet with our Lead Kids Pastor prior to baptism.
